savannah + brandon + albert the doggie

things we see, eat and do

projects

January 23, 2013 //

Since apparently moving and settling into our first home (still in progress) wasn’t enough of a project, we decided to take on a few more. This past weekend, we went to a few of the many thrift/antique stores in Burbank looking for something to turn into a headboard and found two things we just couldn’t pass up.

First, we found this little guy at Helping Hands for Animals. It’s not a super nice piece, or very big and is definitely no headboard, but the shape is really nice and savannah had a definite vision for this one as soon as she saw it. Also, we were helping animals. It wasn’t a huge investment, so if it doesn’t turn out right, hopefully it will at least be a fun process.

Second, we found a couple of World War II era trunks at Vintage Boutique. We’d been eyeing a storage bench online at Target to put at the end of our bed, but when we saw this trunk, we decided it would be a fun project to restore it (and maybe paint it) and would definitely keep our bedroom looking plenty masculine. In the last couple of days, we’ve learned a fair amount about restoring trunks by reading articles online, so we’ll walk you through our journey with this one… Follow along to see if we’re crazy for attempting this.

Our trunk. The lock on the front is bent and won't close.
